  2. 1. The purpose was to put down on paper the rights of all men and women. the main parts were an intro, a body basically saying that the things that the king did were wrong. and then the closing stating everything that we need.
    2. natural rights, to me means the rights that people are born with. just by being you have certain rights to do certain things, that no one can take away from you.
this concept is in the declaration of independance because the colonists felt that their rights were being innfringed upon.

    3. Unalienable rights means thinngs that cant be taken away from you. my rights wcan not be alienated. they cant be denied.

    4. This paragraph was taken out to gain more support from slave states. the funny thing is though that thomas jeferson had 187 slaves.

It was a way to tell the people that yes, they were free, and it was a way to taunt it in front of the king of england.

    2. What is the origin and meaning of "natural rights" and how is this concept applied in the Declaration of Independence?
natural rights are the rights that they think every man "naturally" has and they have these rights no matter what. They state that every man has natural rights.

    3. Write a definition of "unalienable rights." What rights might be considered 'unalienablez?'
It is the rights that everyone has and cannot be broken. All man must be tried before he is sent to jail.

    4. Thomas Jefferson's original draft included the paragraph above that discussed slavery. Why was this paragraph omitted from the final document?
Because not all the people agreed with what he said and since it didn't apply to everyone they didn't want it in there.

The purpose of the declaration was to be an ensuring type thing that state every person in the united states rights. It was basically to gain our independence and to set up a foundation for the country to sustain on.

  15. 1. To show us and the British what rights we should have, and what rights we want, and our natural rights as humans. Also, to tell the British this is what we wanted, and that we will be our own country.

    2. Natural rights are rights that we as US citizens have and believe in. Like, Freedom of Speech. They are rights that we should be able to have regardless of having permission or not.

    3. It is the thought that every one is created equal. Rights like people shouldn't be discriminated against (although this did happen and totally goes against the thought that everyone is equal)

    4. Not everyone had agreed with his opinion. In order for some people to sign, he had to remove it.

  19. 1. it was to formally show thier dissagreement with what britain was doing. they felt that all men are born with inalienable rights and britain was violating/not giving them those rights. they then went on to specify their grievances with the current system. once a group of people "finds themselves" they have the right to revolt against the oppressive authority.

    2. rights that are instilled in everyone. names how the rights are not being given.

    3. rights that cannot be alienated/taken away from that person. everyone is born and entitled to the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; no matter your race or people group.

    4. a lot of the people that made the declaration were slave holders. they didn't want to have to lose thier slaves in the process of gaining freedom for themselves.

  20. roya: when you said that there's a beginning middle and end for the first question, you need to go more in depth. the intro captures the heart and soul of what the patriots wants and needs are.

whitney: to clarify your #3 i don't think their talking about just americans when they say unalienable rights. they're talking about the rights of ALL mankind. (it definitely makes a difference)
